Method
- Wash the masoor dal well.
- Add dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt to a pressure cooker.
- Pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles.
- Mash the cooked dal lightly.
- Heat oil or ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds.
- Add onion and green chilies. Cook until light golden.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute.
- Add tomato, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook until soft.
- Add cooked dal and mix well.
- Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes.
- Add garam masala and coriander leaves.
- Add lemon juice if using and serve hot.
Notes
Cut the potatoes small so they cook evenly. Do not add too much water, as this is a dry sabzi. Stir gently to keep the cauliflower pieces from breaking.
